Researchers say that if you’re having trouble getting over a lost love, you might help yourself by storing items.  That means putting something related to a failed romance into a box or envelope.  The researchers found that the physical act of sealing things up improved people’s negative feelings towards the event and created closure.

If you tell people, “you’ve got to move on,” that doesn’t work

What works is when people enclosematerials that are relevant to the negative memories they have.  It works because people aren’t trying to explicitly control their emotions.
